Three Most Common Golf Injuries
Golf swings require muscle movements on the shoulders, and a range of motions using the arms and the upper body. It is easy for golfers to get injured if they had not done any conditioning exercises prior to the game.
Here are some measures one can take in order to prevent three of the most common golf injuries:
1. Back injuries
Back injuries are some of the most common golf injuries that players may have. Although quite common, back injuries usually involve muscle strains and often heal by themselves through enough rest and sometimes with the use of pain relievers. The tendency for muscles of the lower back to be strained during a golf swing may be prevented with proper stretch exercises at the start of the game.
To avoid back injury try to keep your spine straight during follow through so as not to overextend it.
2. Shoulder Injuries
The most common shoulder injury is tendonitis, which happens when the rotator cuff gets swollen or torn. In order to prevent shoulder injuries, strengthen your rotator cuff and scapular muscles through regular exercises. When experiencing pain, slow down the velocity of your swing so as not to over stretch the arms and the shoulders.
3. Wrist Injuries
Some golfers can get their wrists injured because of over practice, poor swing methods, advancing age an even some abnormalities on the wrist. If a golfer increases practice time, an overuse injury can occur, particularly if the mechanics of the swing are poor. To avoid wrist injuries, use golf clubs with softer grips. Try to hit practice balls using shorter irons to get the muscles loosened.
There are other major injuries that may occur with improper golf techniques. Remember to do warm ups prior to a game of golf, through stretch exercises as well as some core strengthening exercises during the week. If you are suffering from golf related injuries, you may be given pain relievers and advised to rest. If the pain gets too much, see your doctor who may ask you to have some tests done to make sure that the injury is not that serious.
